University Professorship (W3) “Atmospheric Trace Gases and Remote Sensing”

Entry from the 11.12.2024
Position number 1476/2024
Job vacancy to be filled from: 11.12.2024

Description

We are looking for you as an internationally recognised person in the field of atmospheric remote sensing and/or atmospheric composition. You have experience in the deployment, respectively in the development of corresponding instruments and methods. Your research focuses on improving atmospheric process understanding in the climate system. You develop interfaces with other observational methods and modelling at the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research, at KIT, in the Helmholtz Programme “Changing Earth – Sustaining our Future”, and beyond. You expand existing competence at IMKASF and further develop existing strengths as head of an institute section.

The IMKASF works on questions related to the role of atmospheric composition in climate change. At the institute, there is world-leading competence in the development and application of infrared remote sensing and retrieval theory. Other foci are on determination of atmospheric composition from different platforms, as well as modelling of atmospheric composition. The sections of the institute work closely together in partnership. A common research data management is continuously developed.

KIT offers an excellent interdisciplinary environment at the interface between natural sciences and engineering. You will cooperate closely with colleagues at the KIT Centers for Climate and Environment and MathSEE and their graduate school. You will have a wide range of opportunities to establish new collaborations at KIT and beyond. In your function as section head in the program-oriented research you actively engage in the development of our infrastructures in the Research Field Earth and Environment and contribute to the Helmholtz Programme “Changing Earth – Sustaining our Future”, particularly in the framework of the new “Karlsruhe Integrated Atmospheric Observation System (KIAOS)”. Thus, successfully securing 3rd party funding is strengthening our research focii as well.

With a reduced teaching obligation of 2 semester hours per week, you will represent Atmospheric Remote Sensing in compulsory and optional lectures and practical training of the degree programs "Meteorology and Climate Physics” (BSc/MSc,German/English). The participate in the academic self-administration is welcomed.

Persönliche Qualifikation

A PhD in meteorology (alternatively in physics, environmental physics or similar), a German Habilitation, or equivalent outstanding internationally visible scientific achievements, or the successful completion of a W1 tenure, as well as experience in leadership and high-quality teaching are required.

Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 47 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).
