Computer Vision Assistant for Biodiversity Research: Model Development and System Integration

Entry from the 07.01.2025
Position number 118138
Job vacancy: From now on

Description

We are seeking a dedicated student assistant to join our biomedical engineering and robotics team, focusing on enhancing the software capabilities of our Entomoscope device—a photomicroscope designed for capturing images of insects (preserved in ethanol). While our machine learning models for insect classification and specimen detection have already been developed, we need your help to integrate new measurement features, such as calculating the size of specimens into the Entomoscope software.
Your main focus will be on modifying the user interface (UI) and integrating this measurement feature into the existing software. You’ll also be involved in developing a plugin feature to ensure the device is modular and easily upgradable for future functionalities. This position offers opportunities to expand your work to other ongoing machine-learning projects in biodiversity and image analysis.

Tasks:

Integrate existing machine learning models into the Entomoscope software to enable specimen measurement.
Modify and enhance the user interface (UI) to make these features accessible and user-friendly.
Develop a plugin system to allow for future updates and additional modular functionalities.
Collaborate with the team to test and refine the integrated features, ensuring precision and reliability.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

Familiarity with machine learning principles, particularly in image detection and processing.
Programming experience with Python.
Experience with UI development and software integration.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently handle software-related challenges.

What We Offer:

Flexible working hours, with the possibility to work both on-site at Campus Nord and remotely.
Opportunities to extend your involvement to other machine learning and biodiversity research projects.
