Tenure-track professorship (W1) “HF Endowed Professorship for Physics Education”

Entry from the 18.06.2025
Position number 1189/2025
Job vacancy to be filled from: 24.06.2025

Description

We are seeking an outstanding and highly qualified individual with strong potential to represent the field of subject-specific science education (Fachdidaktik) in both research and teaching across the full breadth of the Physics Education program at the KIT Department of Physics. The professorship will focus on physics education that is rooted in the discipline itself, and we are looking for a candidate with a corresponding background. A close connection between physics as a scientific discipline and its didactics is essential in order to align teacher training with current developments in physics and effectively transfer these into school-level instruction. The research focus of the position should therefore be on developing concepts, methods, and especially experiments for upper secondary education and university-level teaching, covering modern and scientifically rigorous topics in physics. This may include the development of novel teaching materials, experiments, digital media, and more.

In German-language teaching, the professorship will be responsible for delivering the full range of required physics education courses offered by the Department of Physics, as well as for advancing their content and format. This includes a teaching load of 4 semester hours per week (SWS), increasing to 6 SWS following a positive evaluation.

This junior-professorship is funded by the Helmut Fischer Foundation and is embedded within the KIT Department of Physics. The successful candidate will be responsible for the discipline-specific didactics training of students in the physics teacher education programs for secondary schools. In addition, involvement in the discipline-specific education of these students and participation in continuing education for secondary school physics teachers is expected.

Collaboration with didactics professors in other disciplines at KIT, as well as with teacher training institutions in the region, is encouraged.

(2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) as well as to the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT ). The candidate to be appointed should have a proven track record in physics didactics research. Experience in university teaching, especially in teacher qualification, is desirable. Recruitment requirements are a university degree in physics teaching or physics, pedagogical aptitude, a relevant, outstanding doctorate in the field of physics education or physics and additional academic achievements in the field of physics education.
