BAföG and housing benefit
The Federal Training Assistance Act, better known as “BAföG”, is a state education assistance program that benefits school pupils and people in further vocational training as well as students in particular.

BAföG is granted half as an interest-free loan and half as a grant.

You can find everything else about this under the links:
Wohngeld

Students who are not entitled to BAföG or have lost their entitlement or only receive a loan under BAföG are generally entitled to housing benefit.
