Position number 1141/2025
Job vacancy to be filled from: 15.04.2025

Description

As a member of the Collaborative Research Center TrackAct (granted by DFG) you focus on the development and in-depth testing of structured noble metal-based catalysts for emission control. Specifically, various metal and ceramic substrates (e.g. honeycombs or monoliths) should be loaded with catalytic materials and investigated with respect to their oxidation activity. You will synthesize and evaluate the catalytic activity of these nanomaterials at the Center for Emission Control Karlsruhe, which is equipped with modern test stands and a wide range of characterization techniques. As the in-depth understanding of the catalytic behavior under reaction conditions is essential, you will use both laboratory and synchrotron characterization techniques after a comprehensive training.

An additional goal is the further development of advanced robot-controlled methods that allow the preparation of structured catalysts using also complex 3D-printed substrates. Together with partners at KIT and external groups, you will develop novel microreactors for in situ studies as well as robot-controlled deposition setups. You will present your results at national and international conferences, and write publications for internationally renowned journals.

The position offers the use of synchrotron radiation at KIT and international large-scale facilities, such as PETRA III or ESRF. We bring together synthetic, spectroscopic, engineering and theoretical expertise to understand supported noble metal catalysts for emission control from the atomic scale up to the application level. As a doctoral researcher, you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with a very broad spectrum of know-how ranging from physics to chemistry and chemical engineering in one of the multiple graduate schools at KIT. In addition to these optimal research and working conditions, we offer you a targeted training, individual support and standard wage. Finally, you also have the possibility to temporarily join the research teams of collaboration partners abroad.

Persönliche Qualifikation

You should have:

  • Completed very successfully a scientific degree (Master) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
  • Good knowledge in catalysis, material synthesis and technical chemistry.
  • Strong ability to work cooperatively with internal and external project partners
  • Supervision of Bachelor and Master students
  • Independent and structured way of working
  • A high level of teamwork, motivation and the willingness to contribute to the team with your own abilities
  • Very good English and, if possible, German language skills
  • A driving license valid in Europe is welcome
